QUICK TIPS! HOW TO FIND EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ON GOOGLE WITHOUT WASTING TIME

Written By Naijaetech

#1. Type only the keyword (the words you consider to be the most important). Since Google will ignore the stop words, why bother including them in your search query?
For example, instead of searching “my laptop screen turn black after booting how do I fix that?”, you can simply search “laptop black screen solution”. Remember Google is a robot not a human being.
#2. Use quotation marks to find the websites that contains exactly the words you are looking for. When you put your search query in quotation marks, Google will only bring out websites that contains the exact same phrase the exact way you typed it.
The image below shows an example.
Example of Google search result.
#3. Use asterisk (*) to search for popular quotes or phrases that you can’t remember some of its word. An example is if you want to search for the statement “the quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog” but can’t remember the whole statement, you can put the words you remember in asterisk and Google will do the rest.
Google search result
#4. Adding hyphen (-) before a word tells Google to exclude the word while crawling for results.
A typical example is when you search for the word “jaguar”, Google will show you result for Jaguar cars, but that might not be the type of jaguar you have in mind.
Google search resualt for jaguar
To exclude Jaguar cars from the result in this scenario, simply type jaguar -cars in the search box. Be mindful not to leave a space between the hyphen and the word.

#5. Use double period (..) to search for range. For example, if you want to search for laptops between the range of 60k to 80k in Nigeria, you simply type laptops N60k..N80k.
#6. Using colon (:)
a. To get result only from a specific website, use the following format. site:site URL keyword. An example is shown in the image below.
Searc result on Google.
b. To find websites relating to a particular website, use the following format; related:site URL. An example is shown in the image below.

c. To get information about a particular website, use the following format; info:site URL. Here is an example.
Google search result for website info
d. To get results for only a specific type of file, use the filetype operator in the following format; filetype:file_format keyword. For example, filetype:mp3 make it shine by victorious.
Observe that there is no space between the colon and the preceding words.
#7. If you want to get the meaning of a word, simply type define before the word.
Google search result
#8. Do you know that you can search for an image by dragging and dropping the image intoGoogle image search box?

#9. If you want to limit search result to a specific time period, click on “search tool” button, then click on “Any time” and select the time period you want.
Selecting time period on Google search result
You can also select a custom time range by clicking on the “Custom range…” and put your custom time period.
#10. You can quickly convert units by typing it in the search box as shown in the image below.

#11. To find the weather condition of a particular city or place, simply type the weather followed by the city name. An example is shown in the image below.

How to Survive on a Nigerian Campus Without Cooking(A MUST READ!)

Skimming through the topic, most probably what flashes through your mind is “How is that possible?”, Of course it is very possible if you know how to manipulate your ways, but get ready to succumb to one, more or all of the following conditions :

1. GetReady To Spend
Since you are feeling somehow too huge to lift a pot and strike a matchbox, get ready to stroll into the abode of mama put and spray some cash to get some stuffs into your ever-worried belly. This is not an easy task though, imagine you eating three times with a purchasing power, calculating it at a rate of #200 per meal if you are not a glutton affiliate, summing up to #600 per day, invariably #4,200 per week and an aggressive aggregate of #16,800 in a month!! COME! Grab a seat and sit next to me, how much is Nigeria’s minimum wage??Leave that aside, how much does it cost to set up a pure water factory somewhere at the backyard of this street?? Imagine you saving that sum for a couple of months, my guy you are already a business man. Ruminate on that. Shoutouts to those guys that do the cooking, not all of you do not have the money to spend but it’s cool to plan your future right from time.
2. Get Ready To Beg
You know blue blood is not running through your vein and you don’t want that pot to leave a black spot on your skin?? Then let me give you some tactics on how to survive without doing the cooking,by begging. Go to Youtube and download a couple of Basketmouth comedy videos, cram as many as possible, this might take you days to do so. Wake up and scout the person that is cooking out, walk up to him and give him a friendly handshake while you shout ” My Surest Dude! How Your Night Na”, avoid the usage of pure English so it won’t sound like you are forming phonetics, do not leave the guy’s hand after the handshake though, keep shaking him like he just won golden boot and you are to present it to him, then sharply look around for a circumstance that will befit one of the jokes in your head, throw the joke in the air and laugh hysterically as you crack it, remember, laughter at times stimulates laughter… The condition is straight, if you are a dry comedian, you cracked it at the wrong time, or your joke doesn’t seem funny , then you need another means of getting food. Else, he laughs and probably other roommates join in the process, I must say “You don hammer!”, just sit back and wait for the food to get done, then echo the statement “Guy I dey chop o”, you have a 70% chance of eating part of the food. Just note that this tactics wont last you more than five times before they get to know the kind of human being you are.
But why should you go through the whole long process of If’s and Else’s like you are writing python syntax, just for something as simple as “Eating”, it will soil your dignity for sure and very soon they will start insulting you with the punchline, they might even compose personal anthem for you, depending on the category of roomies you have in your possession.
So, get off your high horse, head to the market, get some food stuffs and COOK!!!
3. Get A Rich Girlfriend
Laughter flows through my pen as I hold it tightly and script down this point. It has no guarantee, but just in case, it must be mentioned but no details. When a typical girl nowadays won’t follow you for a stroll if you don’t get her something like suya to mix her saliva, then you will need to offer her the heart of Mother Theresa before you make your own offer of “Cook For Me”. She will definitely have to love you, and if you are not loveable, then this option is not meant for you, scroll to the next. This will definitely affect your dignity as well and it will hardly last long as someone close to the girl will one day mention “This your boyfriend is broke sha o, na everytime e dey chop 4 here“. Oooops! That’s not the best idea, if you already have this mentality then clear it off your mind, it’s abusive.
4. Get Ready To Starve
Extracting what starving means, in case you don’t know, it means to suffer severely or die from hunger, to be undernourished, malnourished and to experience a concentrated feeling of near-death discomfort or weakness caused by lack of food, coupled with the desire to but nothing to eat. No simple British English can describe it comfortably, everything is huge and scary, for you to know that starving is not even a considerable option for a normal human being. You will see books and wont be unable to read as they will seem like uneatable chops, you will experience nights filled with nightmares, that’s when you will realize that all cats are gray in the dark, you will walk on the street and get shaky and dangling in the direction of the wind like a drunk monk, then you will know the effect of food on your stamina. But I think at that moment, nobody will tell you to get a pot before you do, even if there is no cooker, you might decide to place it under the hot sun, that’s when you will realize that food is the enhancer of human brain.
Conclusively, all points made but the fact remains the same and it’s obvious it’s not easy surviving without cooking on a Nigerian campus, it’s always better to do, it saves your spending and also reduce your dependency.

GOODLUCK!!!

When Your Degree No Longer Guarantees Success!

Good afternoon, everyone.

I'm writing tthis due to two reasons. There's a thread on FP where someone's said sometimes he almost regretted going to school. I'll post the link to that thread later. Also, a few days ago, maybe even over a week ago, a friend of mine sent me a text message as early as 6 am, complaining how joblessness has been frustrating him. In the message, he claimed he was about to go into depression and that I should advise him.

My friend and I have come all the way through the same secondary school back in Lagos. He later went to read Marine Engineering from UST, Port Harcourt, the same city where I now work. I called and spoke at length with him. He saw my points. And it's some o these points I'm now sharing here.

A wrong Reason For Going To school!

A vast majority of us believe that the sole aim for going to acquire a degree or some other higher qualifications is to secure a job. That's a terrible mindset! It's the most inappropriate reason for undertaking a challenging process like getting a degree. I used to think that way too. But I was fortunate to have read Rich Dad, Poor Dad and other inspirational books during my ND days. From those books it became clear I was in school to reduce my ignorance and to increase my capacity for usefulness.

When you have a wrong mindset like this, you set up yourself for frustration when the job doesn't come at the right time. It creates tension, envy, depression and may even lead to a suicide. But when you have the right mindset, it prepares you for the challenges ahead, and may force you into doing or learning other skills that may prove invaluable in the future. We didn't go to school for the sole purpose of getting a job. It was a mindset sold us by the society and our parents, but we have to change it. NOW!

The World Doesn't Owe You A Job!

This was the second point I discussed with my friend. My dad told me how jobs were waited for them even before they finished school. That time don pass! A few top politician may achieve that for their fortunate kids, but the vast majority of us knew before hand that that won't be our case. With that belief, we have set up ourselves for unnecessary tension and frustration. The world doesn't owe you a job. The system doesn't owe you a job. You've got to go and fight for your place. You've got to hustle and create a niche for yourself.

Your Degree Isn't A Guarantee For Success!

We need to change our mindset about a lot of things. I never doubted the fact I was going to secure a job after my higher Institution but I also knew my certificate isn't necessarily a guarantee for a job. In fact, I had gone to Lagos hustling with my fishing boat and wood engine boat when I got a letter for my aptitude test. I was still reading and making the necessary contacts as I was paddling my canoe. My hatred for poverty and lack was so great I wasn't even willing to narrow down my success to a paper- a degree/certificate. People saw me as I took my engine and boat to hustle opposite the Nigeria Ports Authority in Lagos, moving passengers from the villages to Apapa township. I didn't bother. I knew it was temporary. But in between when I would secure that dream job, I couldn't ask my parents for money. They've done their best.

I was always prepared for any aptitude test. I had a lot of past oil and gas questions and answers. I never failed to browse relevant sites. I was able to pass the aptitude test, the oral interview and landed the proverbial dream job. I give Him all the glory.

To all those believing Him for a great job, do not pass this moment complaining and whining; they will only lead to chaos and disaster. Look for something SMALL to do. Start small little. Just do something.

There's no free meal anywhere anymore. Don't let that degree prevent you from taking up that cleaning job. Don't let it stop you from taking that security job. It's all a process. Don't let your degree stand in your way. Your degree is supposed to give you a PLATFORM from which you could shoot into any angle and area. Why allow it to become a hindrance to you? Opportunities abound; open your eyes.

Till date I keep learning new skills. There's NO job security anywhere. I'm always conscious of the future. I'm not relenting. I'm not carried away by the little pleasure of the moment. I've got TOMORROW in view.

Change your mindset, and you've changed your life.

The world owes you NOTHING! Forthwith, get busy and believe God for that mega paying job.

Wishing you all a successful career. Thank you!
