2014/2015 SPDC JOINT VENTURE UNIVERSITY AWARD SCHEME

The shell petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (Operator of the NNPC/ SHELL/TEPNG/AGIP Joint Venture) scholarship scheme offers first year students in all Nigerian Universities the opportunity to study with an annual grant from the SPDC JV for the full duration of their course. The programme aims to promote academic excellence and improve the skills of young Nigerians.

WHO CAN APPLY

The merit-based scholarship is in two categories:

        I.            The National merit Award(NM)

      II.            The Areas of Operation Merit Award, East or West (OE or OW)

NATIONAL MERIT AWARD(NM): open to all Nigerians

AREAS OF OPERATION MERIT AWARD, EAST(DE): open to Nigerians who are indigenes of states with SPDC’s operations namely; Abia, AkwaIbom, Imo, Rivers and Bayelsa (excluding indigenes of Ekeremor and Sagbama local government areas).

AREAS OF OPERATION MERIT AWARD, WEST (OW): is open to Nigerians who are indigenes of states with SPDC’s operations namely Delta and Bayelsa(Ekeremor and Sagbama local government areas ONLY)

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS MUST:

·         Be citizens of Nigeria, currently enrolled in an accredited and approved university in Nigeria.

·         Have gained admission during the 2014/2015 academic session and pursuing a first degree prrogramme.

·         Have a minimum of seven credits in seven subjects including mathematics and English in their O/Levels.

HOW TO APPLY

o   All applicants should have their valid personal email account (for all correspondence).

o   Candidates who meet the above requirements should apply online at www.shellnigeria.com candidates are to upload scanned copies of the following as part of the application:

o   A recent passport –sized photograph of the applicant (i.e. jpeg format, not more than 200kilobytes);

o   University or Jamb (UTME or D/E) admission letter;

o   Unified Tertiary matriculation Examinations (UTME) scores;

o   O’Lvel results; and ‘A’ level/OND/NCE results as applicable and

o   Letter of identification from applicants’ state showing indicating the Local government of origin.

3. Candidates for the AREAS OF OPERATION MERIT AWARDS(OE and OW) are also required to upload a scanned copy of a letter of identification issued by:

a. The paramount ruler of the community

b. The chairman of the community development or Executive Council(CDC or CEC)

Each of the two letters must be signed, stamped and addressed to:

The Manager,

Sustainable Development (UID/G/NRS),

Shell petroleum development Company,

Port Harcourt.

NOTE:

Each scanned document must not exceed 200KB and the image format must be in JPEG.

Applications should be submitted online not later than 18th of September, 2015.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT MTNF SCHOLARSHIP

Approximately 37,800 students applied last year and it is estimated that the number will double this year

1. The exam is organized by JAMB and comprise of the following sections: One Comprehension Passage with 5 questions, Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, Analogy, and of course Information Technology Questions plus Current affairs/General Knowledge.

2. The Exam will last for Two hours. After which you will receive a transport stipend of N2,500, this might increase this year.

3. About 500 students will be Shortlisted as winners but the coordinators are deliberating on increasing the number so anything can happen this time.

4.  3 weeks after the exam and the award ceremony will hold in Owerri (Precisely FUTO or Poly Nekede all in Imo State) and in Lagos. Each winner is given a certificate of Scholarship award from MTNF

4. Each winner receives alert of N200,000  in 3 weeks time in the bank account they submit on the award day.But for this year, MTN is partnering with Diamond Bank for the Diamond Yellow Account which is now the new method of disbursing the cash.

5. Old Awardees who are still on ground as regards their CGPA will also be invited for renewal of Award. This implies that you can have the scholarship until you graduate as long as your CGPA does not fall below 3.5 or 2nd class upper as well as their equivalents for Poly students.

MTN SCHOLARSHIP 2015/2016

MTN Foundation Science & Technology Scholarship Scheme for 2015/2016 set of student.
A maximum of 500 qualified and successful full-time Nigerian students studying science and technology related courses are awarded the scholarship which covers tuition, book allowance and stipends.
The scholarship is renewed every year until graduation for existing awardees provided they have maintained a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or its equivalent (second class upper/upper credit) while new applications, when advertised, are welcome from full time students in their second year of study.

The Portal for application was opened On Monday 17th August, 2015 and students who are currently in their Year 2 in Nigerian tertiary institutions can now apply for the scholarship.
Eligibility For MTN Foundation Scholarship Application 2015
The students must be in their second year at the time of application, ie they must be of the 2013/2014 admission set.
  1. Applicants from public Universities and Colleges of Education in Nigeria must be full time undergraduates in 200 level/2nd year.
  2. Applicants from public Universities and Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score of 3.5 or its equivalent (2:1)
  3. Applicants from public Polytechnics must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) programme and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma programme (HND).
  4. Direct entry level students must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (upper credit) from the OND programme and must have secured admission into 200 level/2nd year in a public University

12 Things Every Fresh Student Must Know



Dedicated to all Fresh Student on Campus 
I want to say a big Welcome come to you, without much ado let us get to business

1.     Don’t rush things, be it registrations or payment, this is because money paid out of mistake are often not refunded and if it is registration, you might pay an extra fee to get the error corrected.
2.     Always pay attention to instructions and have an extra copy of any document that has the university logo
3.     Go to lecture hall as early as you can because there is competition for seat and when lecture commences for the day make sure you write down something
4.     Be friendly with everybody and ask questions when necessary, this will help, as you will later realize information dissemination is poor in Lautech (well thank God for lautechbank.com). A test or registration can be done without your consent so feel free to ask questions from your colleagues.
5.     Some free tutorial are available in school join one if you think you are not clear with anything.
6.     Make the library your best friend, strike a balance between your social life and academic life.
7.     Attend all practical classes
8.     Know what works best for you, don’t try to imitate anybody you were born an original don’t die a copy!
9.     Read with pencil to underline salient points, read all you have been taught in a day before 12am
10.  Learn to use your brain and not your head (be intelligent).
11.  Important ” STAY AWAY FROM NEGATIVE PEOPLE WITH NO SENSE OF DIRECTION ” they are very much around.
12.  And most importantly don’t forget the ‘G’ (God) factor
